From October 22 to 25, 2009, the 3rd ACM Conference on recommender systems was held in New York. This third conference, which drew on the success of Minneapolis (USA), Lausanne (Switzerland) and Bilbao (Spain), had the goal to promote cooperation between research and industry. In many sessions, researchers from around the world presented their findings in the area of recommender systems. The latest experience from the practical use of recommender systems in the industry was highlighted as well. Many companies presented their reviews or introduced new products and solutions to the audience. A particularly outstanding event was the presentation of the results of the Netflix Prize worth USD 1 million in prize money with the personal participation of the three winning teams. "This conference was quite a positive event with a very good balance of academic lectures and practical examples from the industry," said Michael Friedmann, CTO of YOOCHOOSE. "We will definitely be back next year in Barcelona."
